‘linen is a b*tch to stitch’

August 6, 2010

Well, that’s what I’ve been up to this week. I have fallen in love with linen. I love the natural look, I love the way it enhances colours and changes the entire mood of a quilt instead of using white, I love its reminiscence of the humble brown paper and I love the slightly rough but also gentle drapey feel of it. I was explaining how it was a little trickier to sew with than normal quilting cotton to Mr Sippity (who is ever so patient and listens to me freely airing thoughts about fabric, works in progress etc often), who said- right so what you’re telling me, is ‘linen is a b*tch to stitch’. Heh, I love his sewing insights!

I’ve finished piecing this top. It’s made of my most favourite material from home that I couldn’t quiet bear to part with. I had never quiet gotten around to using some of this material and now I know it was just waiting patiently for a trip half way around the world to be matched with linen.

Here are some photos before it was not quiet finished…

This is one of my favourite squares.

I think I will quilt it with large individual loopy flowers, inspired by Elizabeth Hartmen.

Have a lovely weekend!
